  • Flower Girl Basket (semi-DIY) - DONE!!
  • Ring Bearer Pillow - IN PROGRESS

I'm more in to the paper products as DIY, so I don't have that many non-paper products on this page; sorry!

I had originally planned on doing an aisle runner, but the reverend at our church actually won't allow them because he says he's seen too many ladies almost fall when their heels punch through the cheap material from the craft store runners, so he took one project off of my DIY list!

Unity Candle

Picture
This was by far the easiest DIY project I've ever done.  Just printed the monogram out on a piece of vellum, cut two pieces of black ribbon, then stuck it all on to the candle with glue dots.  Then I used e6000 glue to glue black rhinestones to the tapers.  The only problem I have now is that the tapers are crooked so every time I try to put them in the holders they look drunk.

Sorry about the plastic packaging.  I forgot to take a picture until I had put everything back in, and I was too lazy to take it all back out.

We won't actually be using this at the wedding, because FI decided he didn't want one.  Sad :(

Card Box

I originally had a damask print cardbox from Michael's, but then I saw the stacked cardboxes all over The Knot, and I really wanted one.  I bought the rectangle paper mache boxes that everyone talks about, but when I stacked them I didn't think it was big enough, so I used the two larger boxes from that set and the damask box I originally had from Michael's to make the whole thing a little larger.  I wrapped the boxes in black and white satin; I wrapped the boxes and the lids separately.  When you look closely at the white middle box, you can see the definition from the lid being wrapped separately.  I just liked the box a little better that way.  The red ribbon is tucked in between each layer as well, rather than just going straight up the box.  The red rose topper is just five silk roses that I had from the failed silk flower attempt that I liked better than putting a bow on the top.  I originally wasn't going to do the trailing ribbons, but I cut the card slot a little crooked on the left, so the ribbon got used and covers it up perfectly.  I put the cards sign on so people would know what it was...my stepdad encouraged me to do so, lol.  I don't know, I like how it turned out, but I will never use spray adhesive again.  Holy man, that stuff ended up all over the place!

Bathroom Baskets

Picture
So, I won't lie - I put the signs on so people would know that the items were something extra that we provided for them, not something that the hall provided. Lame, I know, but whatever

I put some cardboard covered in the same black satin from the cardbox in each basket so that the items in the baskets would sit up higher in the basket and be easier for guests to see (and hopefully use!)
So I'll be totally honest.  I've never before been to a wedding that had bathroom baskets, so I have NO CLUE if my guests will use the stuff, but hey - never hurts to try, right???  These were on clearance at Michael's, and they were a dark brownish color.  I just spray painted them black, wrapped the red ribbon around it, then attached the sign with some e6000.  Not exactly rocket science, but they turned out nice enough.

The women's basket contains:  Tampons, pads, hair elastics, lotion, cough drops, aspirin, Tums, spray-on deodorant, body spray, Colgate Wisps (the little mini portable toothbrush things), dental floss, mouthwash, a mini first aid kit, a little hairbrush, a Tide pen, and some Shout Wipes.  There may be more, but I can't remember it all at the moment.

The men's basket contains:  Cough drops, aspirin, Tums, spray-on deodorant, body spray, Colgate Wisps (the little mini portable toothbrush things), dental floss, mouthwash, a mini first aid kit, lotion, a Tide pen, and some Shout Wipes.  Again, there may be more, but I still can't remember it all.

Favors

Please excuse the blurry photo - sorry about that!

I originally wasn't going to do favors, but after seeing another Knottie make marble magnets for her favors I loved the idea and decided to go for it.  They'll be packaged in mini Altoid like tins in the same groupings seen above.  I started these about two weeks before Labor Day - I bought a 1/2" round paper punch and punched out 180 of each design of paper.  The polka dots and the striped paper were easiest because they were approximately the same paper weight as printing paper.  The two silver designs (basketweave and linen) and the swirls and paisley design were awful - they were really thick cardstock and my poor thumb was so sore when I was done with them.  On Labor Day I started assembling them by gluing the paper to the marble with Glass & Bead glue from Michael's.  Once that was dry, I glued ceramic magnets I bought off of eBay to the backs with e6000.  I let each set dry overnight stuck to the back of a cookie sheet.  It was a really easy project, but it was so monotonous it actually took me over a month to complete the assembly because I didn't want to work on it.  And my hands got absolutely filthy from the magnets.

I packed them in mini tins and did a mini-bellyband that matched our invitations around the outside.

Flower Girl Basket & Ring Bearer Pillow

Picture
The semi-DIY part was that I painted this basket black. Cheap and simple, what more could I ask for??

This is our ring bearer pillow as of right now. I hate it, so I'm thinking I'm just going to take the wanna-be flower off and leave it plain black
